I feel that Ikea has a bit of a bad reputation in the interior design world. I have often had clients say things such as “Oh that’s just temporary” when referring to an ikea piece they own, or “that looks a bit Ikea” when referring to a modern piece of furniture they perceive as such. I understand that they are looking for a high end look and they associate Ikea with cheap. However in my mind Ikea can be an excellent source, due to it being design led, practical and affordable, provided you know what to buy. These are my favourite pieces available in Ikea right now.
1. Baggebo Shelving Unit
Baggebo shelving in red £19 at IKEA
I find Ikea’s metal pieces to be very hard wearing and this red bookcase would brighten up any hallway or home office.
2. Flönsa Memo Board
I challenge you to find a good sized non institutional looking corkboard for less!
3. Gullbergsö Cushion Cover
Gullbergso cushion cover £5 at IKEA
An excellent indoor/outdoor cushion to brighten up your garden furniture. My only advice would be don’t buy your cushion inner from IKEA as they’re not the best.
4. Flottilj Table Lamp
I love this stylish and simple metal desk light. It gives designer vibes.
5. Björksnäs Bedside Table
Björksnäs bedside table £99 at IKEA
I have used this bedside table in childrens rooms on a few projects and it looks even better IRL.
7. Östanö Dining Chair
Östanö dining chair £25 at IKEA
A simple, unfussy but comfortable and stylish chair for adding warm tones to your scheme.
